New Delhi, Jan 25: MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has written a letter to the External Affairs Minister in response to another attack by Lankan nationals on Tamil Nadu fisherman.

Three Tamil fisherman from Vedaranyam were attacked by unknown Sri Lankan nationals on January 23, according to CM Stalin.

“300 kilos of fishing net, GPS and VHF radio and 30 litres of diesel were robbed from them and they were physically attacked,” stated CM Stalin urging Indian government to take this up with Sri Lankan Government in a stern manner.

“It is observed that continuing attacks on Tamil Nadu by Sri Lankan nationals are clearly aimed at keeping the Tamil Nadu fishermen away from traditional fishing waters of Palk Strait,” he said.

In a separate letter to PM Modi, CM Stalin expressed worry about the Sri Lankan Fisheries Department’s decision to auction 105 fishing vessels seized by the Lankan Navy and belonged to Tamil Nadu fishermen.

“The tearing hurry to conduct an auction without consultation is bound to derail efforts of the Indian High Commission and the Government of Tamilnadu aimed at providing some succour to the poor fishermen who have lost their means of livelihood”, said CM Stalin on his letter.

The Chief Minister further urged the Indian government to continue its efforts to secure the transparent disposal of 125 Tamil Nadu boats caught prior to 2018 and to ensure the early release of 75 boats and fishing gear apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy after that date.
