Ramgarh, June 9: The fire that engulfed the coal stocked at the railway siding near Bhurkunda railway station on April 21 is still continuing.
The flames can be clearly seen in the darkness of the night. The fire appeared as if a volcanic eruption had taken place somewhere. People living nearby are facing trouble due to fire and smoke.
There is a possibility of burning several tonnes of coal due to the fire in the coal stock. Siding operators are making all efforts to control the fire but the fire has not been controlled yet.
Coal is stocked in the siding by bringing it from different collieries. After this, the work of sending it through racks to various power plants in the country is done.
The stock caught fire on April 21 which was extinguished after a lot of effort through three fire tenders and a tanker. Even after this, the stock caught fire due to which the coal caught fire.
Siding director Dhananjay Yadav said that the coal often catches fire in the scorching heat. “Due to the lack of space on the side where the fire has started, there is a problem in removing the burning coal. The fire will be extinguished after emptying the coal in a day or two,” he added.
