Dumka: Passengers numbering nearly fifty who were travelling in a bus had a narrow escape on Saturday when it collided head-on with a four-wheeler after getting imbalanced along the Govindpur-Sahebganj state highway under Bindapathar police station limit of Jamtara district.

Nearly two dozen passengers including women and children sustained injuries in the incident that took place near Bansnali village.

Sources quoting the eyewitnesses’ account said that the bus got imbalanced as one of its front tyres suddenly exploded before colliding with the pick-up van coming from the opposite side.

The driver and the cleaner of the pick-up van also received injuries together with the injured passengers were immediately taken to the Sadar Hospital after being evacuated from the bus by the Police forces of the town police station with the help of local residents.

The ill-fated bus was carrying over four dozen passengers and was on way to Deoghar from Kundahit (Jamtara) whereas the pick-up van was on way to Basukinath in the Dumka district.

“The collision is said to have been caused by the bursting of one of the front tyres of the Monika bus,” the officer in-charge of the town police station of Jamtara Abdul Rahman said, adding the injured passengers were being treated at the Sadar Hospital.
