Dhanbad, Aug 7: Two Congress MLAs have condemned lathicharge on intermediate failed girl students at the collectorate here and demanded action against the officers responsible for it after a probe.
Congress Jharia MLA Purnima Singh after meeting the injured girl students on Saturday said that such an act (lathicharge) was a crime. “Officers should have resolved the matter peacefully. Students are already affected by the lockdown and they deserve sympathy. Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) should also work with responsibility so that future of students does not get affected,” she said.
Congress firebrand Barkagaon (Hazaribagh) MLA Amba Prasad while condemning the lathicharge on girl students said that it was an inhuman act. The state government should take action against the officers responsible for it after a proper investigation of the incident.
The police under SDM Surendra Kumar on Friday lathi-charged intermediate failed girl students who had gone to meet Health Minister Banna Gupta at the collectorate. The health minister was holding a meeting on the 20-point programme with officials.
Dhanbad BJP MP PN Singh also assailed the incident and held Chief Minister Hemant Soren responsible. “Hemant Soren government is insensitive otherwise innocent girl students would not have been beaten in presence of a minister of the state. It should be condemned in strong words,” he said.
Dhanbad Sadar MLA Raj Sinha (BJP) said that the incident has proved that the Hemant Soren government is not sensitive toward the lockdown affected students.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) state working committee member Ashok Mandal said that the incident was condemnable. “Such an incident was a conspiracy to defame the state government. I have urged the chief minister to remove Dhanbad SDM immediately,” he said.
