Jamshedpur, Aug 7: Of late commuters are regularly facing problems while negotiating through the new railway underpass near Tata- Pigments on the busy Jugsalai- Station Road.
It has become a nightmare for commuters, especially at night.
The damage caused to the road due to the recent heavy rains poses a mishap threat.
Potholes have developed on the road which causes immense problems for daily commuters.
The new railway underpass which debuted in 2016 was meant to bust bottlenecks on the busy Jugsalai-Station Road.
But, every year during monsoon it augments jam session as the road gets damaged.
Even 15 minutes of incessant rain causes waterlogging at the new underpass which was built at a cost of Rs 6 crore to facilitate hassle-free traffic.
Light rainfall on Friday evening only added to commuting chaos, especially for Tatanagar-bound passengers.
” The underpass was constructed for ensuring hassle-free travel to the railway station. But, it is a nightmare to pass through it especially when it rains. Two months are still left for the monsoon. God knows what will happen,” said a commuter.
Commuters, mostly passengers headed for the station from Bistupur, Sonari, and Kadma, face similar ordeal while crossing the underpass.
According to locals, traffic snarls are an everyday affair at the underpass. The old underpass road had also got damaged but it was repaired.
Railway administration admitted drainage gaffe. ” We are aware of the problem faced by commuters negotiating through the underpass. Work has been initiated for proper drainage. We will be able to resolve the issue soon, ” said Tatanagar station director, H K Balmuchu.
