New Delhi: Congress on Monday intensified its criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, raising concerns over former US President Donald Trump’s claim of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Party spokesperson Pawan Khera accused the government of secrecy and complicity, saying, “Sindoor ka sauda hota raha aur pradhan mantri chup rahe,” implying silent negotiations during Operation Sindoor.
Congress questions global dealings and transparency
Khera raised doubts over the government’s strategic disclosures, asking, “What secrets are PM Modi, Jaishankar, and BJP ministers hiding with America and China? Why must the nation suffer because of these undisclosed agendas?” The Congress demanded greater transparency over India’s diplomatic conduct during the recent cross-border military operations.
Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar under opposition fire
The remarks come amid ongoing criticism of EAM Jaishankar for a video clip shared by Rahul Gandhi on May 17, in which Jaishankar reportedly said India had warned Pakistan at the start of Operation Sindoor. Gandhi called it a “crime,” questioning, “Who authorised it? How many aircraft did our air force lose as a result?” In a fresh post on X, Gandhi reiterated the charge, writing, “Jaishankar’s silence isn’t just telling — it’s damning.”
MEA dismisses Congress claim as distortion
The Ministry of External Affairs responded, calling the Congress’s interpretation a “misrepresentation of facts.” The MEA clarified that the warning to Pakistan came during “the early phase after Operation Sindoor’s commencement,” not before the strike. “This is being falsely represented as being before the commencement. This utter misrepresentation of facts is being called out,” the ministry said in a formal statement.
