Ranchi, June 1: The Congress party is likely to make Shilpi Neha Tirkey its candidate in Mandar by-election.

Shilpi is the daughter of the party’s executive president Bandhu Tirkey, who lost his legislatorship from Mandar constituency on March 28 after he was convicted and sentenced by a CBI court in a case of possessing disproportionate assets. After he lost his legislatorship, the Mandar assembly seat became vacant.

The election is scheduled for June 23. The Congress candidate is expected to file nomination on June 2.

Bandh Tirkey could not be available for his comment on the development. His close aide said an official declaration is yet to be made in the matter at the party level.
