Ranchi, Dec.30: The OBC front of Congress today expressed its satisfaction over the performance of the Hemant Soren-led UPA government in Jharkhand.
OBC coordinator of All India Congress Committee and Jharkhand in-charge of OBC section Dr Rupam at a press conference at Congress Bhawan said the promise of enhancing the OBC percentage from 14 to 27 percent has been fulfilled by passing a bill in this regard.
He said that the government has performed well by restarting the old pension scheme, waiving farmers’ loan, solving the problem of para teachers and fulfilling the demands of Anganawadi and other welfare workers.
Those present during the press conference included Jharkhand Pradesh Congress OBC Department Chairman Abhilash Sahu and former ministers Keshav Mahato Kamlesh besides Parvez Alam, Rajesh Chandra Raju, Pradeep Sahu and others.
On the occasion, Dr Rupam praised Rahul Gandhi saying that in the atmosphere of hatred in the country, the latter has successfully taken out the Bharat Jodo Yatra program across the country.
“In the Bharat Jodo Yatra people of every caste and community are walking with Rahul Gandhi. The Bharat Jodo padyatra has also remained successful in Jharkhand. Taking this program forward, under the Hath Se Hath Jodo campaign, the work of taking it from block to panchayat and booth level will be strongly done by the OBC department from January 26,” he said.
He said that there are about 50 sub-castes in Jharkhand belonging to backward castes. Congress organization, he said, plans to strengthen the party by giving representation to all castes in OBC Congress.
