New Delhi, April 10: Mayawati, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, attacked Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, a day after Gandhi said the BSP chief “did not reply” to the party’s election coalition offer in the state. “The Congress must first care about itself,” she added, adding that the remarks were an attempt to “malign” her party.
“The BJP and the RSS are making India not just ‘Congress-mukt’ but also ‘opposition-mukt’ where India will be left with just one dominant party from national to village level just like that of China’s political system,” Mayawati said at a press briefing.
“We are not a party where a leader like Rahul Gandhi forcefully hugs the prime minister in parliament, we aren’t a party whose fun is made across the world,” she added.
The Congress and the BSP were among the worst-performing parties in the Uttar Pradesh elections. Mayawati’s party won just one seat, while the Congress won only two of the 403 seats in the key state, despite Priyanka Gandhi Vadra leading the campaign.
Notably, on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi said, “ We approached Mayawati and offered her the position of the chief minister, but she did not respond to the proposals.”
“Kanshi Ram ji raised the voice of Dalits in UP, though it affected Congress… But Mayawati ji is saying that I will not fight for it … she gave a clear passage to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Why? (Because of ) CBI, the ED and Pegasus.” He suggested in his remarks that Mayawati was scared due to the alleged misuse of central probe agencies by the BJP.
