Daltonganj, Oct 8: A 5-feet long and over 15 kg python was rescued by cops of the town police outpost 3 in Daltonganj late Friday night.
The python had sneaked into the house of businessman Ranjit Mishra of Azad Nagar and was lying leisurely in the staircase of the house.
The police officer who played a major role in the rescue Mantost Mahto, in charge of the town police outpost 3 in Daltonganj. He said, “Around 11 pm on Friday, I got a phone call from Ranjit Mishra about this python in his house. The family was in a panic. Mishra sought help from us. I along with one cop Ravikant reached Mishra’s house. The python was calm and did not look hungry as it was in a relaxing mood. Had it been any hungry, it would have been slithering around for anything that it eats.”
The python was drawn into a big gunny bag and then taken down to a nearby jungle where it was released at night. The in-charge town police outpost 3 Mahto has been hailed by the local people for such a good response to rescuing the python.
Meanwhile, no forest official bothered to help the Mishra family at night, as per sources.
About 6 months ago, a deadly Karait snake had hidden itself inside the engine of a luxury car in Daltonganj which was luckily spotted by the owner before he could have started the engine.
A snake rescuer said, “If there is a snake in the house, sprinkle phenyl in the area and the snake is bound to come out of its hiding.” Snakes are good sniffers. They flick their tongues to smell besides they have some organs on the top of their mouth which help in their smelling.
One cobra was also rescued from a 20-feet deep water-filled well under the Chainpur police station about one year ago.
