Daltonganj, July 10: A 30-plus sepoy of 112 Batallion CRPF based at Chiyanki in Daltonganj, Pranjal, died by suicide. He hailed from Assam.
The incident took place in the company headquarters at Chiyanki around 3 am today. He ended his life with his service rifle. He was a 2013 recruit in the CRPF. He shot himself in the forehead.
The deceased was said to be a positive personality as he was a physical instructor and was a gym attendee too. His relation with the co-sepoys of the CRPF was cordial.
He had only on this July 8 returned from his leave. There was absolutely no issue of any leave for him.
Sources said he was remaining on leave since this March with intermittent back to duty episodes also here on grounds of the illness of his wife and for once on his own ailment to jaundice.
DIG CRPF Pankaj Kumar said, “This is a very tragic incident. It is very very unfortunate. The guy was a fitness freak, a lover of the gym.”
“On the family front, he could have worries. His wife was said to be a paralytic one. He had just returned from home this July 8 and as such there was no issue of any leave for him at all. He died by suicide. What led to this is not known,” said the top cop of the CRPF here.
The body after the post-mortem would be first reached Ranchi by road and thereafter it would be sent to Assam by flight.
There is a pall of gloom descended in the company headquarters to 112 Bn CRPF here at Chiyanki.
This 112 Bn CRPF is cut out for Latehar district but its headquarters at Chiyanki lies in the Sadar police station in Daltonganj.
Assistant Superintendent of Police and SDPO Rishabha Garg said, “I could know about it this morning. It happened in the company headquarters of 112 CRPF here which is for Latehar but it is based in our police subdivision of Daltonganj Palamu. Our Sadar police would be on it.”
