Ranchi, Feb.15: Ajay Kumar Singh, the new DGP of Jharkhand, has underlined his commitment to ensuring the safety of ordinary citizens while also combating extremism and crime.

Singh, an IPS officer from the 1989 batch, was speaking to members of the media shortly after taking command this morning.

“Crime and naxalism will be eliminated from the state. The state’s anti-Naxalite campaign, which has so far been successful with the assistance of the state police and central security forces, will be stepped up. The current assault against Naxalites will continue,” he said.

“The inhabitants of the state’s safety will be protected. Will confront whatever challenges come my way. I will make every effort to maintain law and order and to prevent crime. The residents of the state should have easy access to all police services; this will be emphasized more,” Singh said.

Singh, who became 13th DGP of the state, after assuming charge had a courtesy meeting with the chief minister. After the meeting he again interacted with another section of media counting his priority.

He said special attention will be given to the basic work of the police. He said that the work which is already being done in a better way will be improved further. Apart from this, he said, exercises for crime control and crime prevention will be done more.

“Seeing that better work has been done in many states regarding community policing and security of senior citizens, efforts will be made to improve this thing here too. Those misguided to become extremists are brought into the mainstream. In order to control the growing cyber crime in the state special training will be imparted to the policemen and whatever equipment they need will be made available,” DGP Singh said.

Singh, who is considered a strict officer with a very calm nature, has worked as superintendent of police in many districts of Bihar and Jharkhand. He has worked as SP in Purnia, Chhapra, Lakhisarai, Godda, Deoghar and Dhanbad. He has also been the DIG of Hazaribagh. Before becoming DGP, he was the chief of the Police Housing and the Anti Corruption Bureau.
