New Delhi, Oct 26: A total of 20 Bangladeshi fishermen were saved by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in proximity to the maritime border between Bangladesh and India. As Cyclone Sitrang neared landfall, their boats had capsized, leaving them stranded in the middle of the ocean.
When it discovered 20 fisherman in the water, the Coast Guard’s Dornier aircraft was on a search mission to help seafarers who might have been impacted by the cyclone’s passage.
The remaining people were holding on to floating objects and fishing boat debris. A life raft was deployed nearby by a Coast Guard plane, which stayed there until the survivors boarded it.
Also, the aircraft redirected the merchant ship Nanta Bhum to rescue 20 fishermen who were struggling for survival in the middle of the ocean. After that, ICG conducted two more air sorties to sanitise the entire area that had been impacted by the cyclone in order to prevent any further events from occurring there.

The Vijaya, Varad, and C-426 Coast Guard ships were diverted to help with search and rescue operations and to sanitise the area. The Coast Guard ship Vijaya then brought the 20 Bangladeshi fishermen to shore.
A medical officer on the ICG ship examined the fishermen. According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the Indian Coast Guard and Bangladesh Coast Guard signed, they will be given to the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
