New Delhi: The monsoon season isn’t over yet. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert as cyclonic systems have formed over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, potentially bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to multiple states over the coming days.
Multiple Cyclonic Circulations Forming
According to IMD, a cyclonic circulation currently exists at lower tropospheric levels over coastal Andhra Pradesh and nearby areas, while another is situated over southern Assam. A third system has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Tamil Nadu. These developments are expected to intensify weather activity across eastern and southern India, particularly West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala.
Heavy Rainfall And Wind Predictions
IMD forecasts that from October 16 to 18, strong winds and high waves are likely near the Tamil Nadu–Andhra coast and the Bay of Bengal. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu over the next seven days. Fishermen have been advised to avoid the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Comorin, and Maldives regions until October 19, with wind speeds projected to reach 35–45 km/h between October 17 and 20. Heavy rain is likely in Odisha, Assam, and Tamil Nadu, while thunderstorms and lightning are expected in Chhattisgarh on October 14–15 and in Vidarbha and Odisha between October 14 and 16.
Rain Forecast Across Peninsular India
Widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra from October 14 to 17, and Marathwada between October 14 and 16. Southern peninsular India will experience rain from October 14 to 19, affecting Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, south Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Lakshadweep at different intervals.
