Ramgarh, May 22: Under the banner of Damodar Bachao Andolan Samiti, Ramgarh, a meeting was held in the auditorium of Royal Enfield, Naisarai last evening.  The chairman of the committee, Govind Mewar, presided over this meeting.  MLA Saryu Roy, the pioneer of this campaign was present in the meeting as the chief guest.  Committee coordinator Prof. Sanjay Singh honoured the chief guest with a bouquet.

Addressing the meeting, Roy said that the Damodar movement had started in the year 2004.  The main objective of this campaign was to make the Damodar River industrial pollution free.  The wastes containing dirt from industries and factories and coal washeries used to flow into the river, due to which the water of the river was getting polluted a lot.  In order to attract the attention of society and the government to stop this pollution, demonstrations were held at the headquarters of the concerned departments by making an outline of the movement.  After a long battle, the Damodar River was freed from industrial pollution.

Roy said that one of the objectives of this campaign is to make the river pollution free.  “The river is being polluted by the garbage and filth flowing from the drains of the cities situated on the banks of the river.  This is a serious problem in common life.  Now all of us are serious and sensitive to making the river free from urban pollution.  Along with this, every year on the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra, Ganga Aarti and worship, a program will be organized at important places in Ramgarh district on May 30,” he added.

The people present specially discussed the outline of the program. A vote of thanks was delivered by Pancham Chowdhary.
