Daltonganj, May 31: World No Tobacco Day was observed on Tuesday in a simple function held at DAV school at Chiyanki in Daltonganj.
Every May 31, the World Health Organisation asks the health setups across the countries to observe the day.
Palamu civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar graced the occasion and discussed the harmful effects of tobacco on human lives.
Girls were seen in more numbers at the event, ostensibly to ensure that they (daughters) will prevail upon their fathers and relatives, if tobacco addicts, to abandon its use.
The civil surgeon said some frank smokers smoke but people standing close to them also become second-hand smokers. “No one has any right to jeopardise others’ health,” he said.
About two years, Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal was fined Rs 500 for smoking at the railway platform in Daltonganj. He was here for the shoot of his film Nastik.
The interesting part of this episode was that many youths had then, to express solidarity with the actor, who was fined 500 rupees, had smoked openly.
