Mumbai, April 22: Ricky Ponting, head coach of the Delhi Capitals, will miss his side’s crucial match against the Rajasthan Royals on Friday after one of his family member, who was staying with him at the team hotel, tested positive for Covid-19.
On Thursday and Friday, the whole DC camp, including players, support personnel, and family members, underwent the Rapid Antigen Test. Ponting has since tested negative on two occasions.
However, because he was a close touch, the management and medical staff have determined that he will be isolated for five days in the best interests of the squad. As a result, he will not be present at tonight’s match against Rajasthan Royals.
In the current situation, the franchise demands that Ponting and his family’s privacy be respected. All of the people in the bubble who have tested positive thus far are being closely monitored. Everyone on the squad is hoping for a quick recovery.
Pravin Amre, Ajit Agarkar, James Hopes, and Shane Watson, DC support staff, will now oversee backroom strategies for the game against Rajasthan Royals in Ponting’s absence. Two of DC’s foreign hires, Tim Seifert and Mitchell Marsh, as well as four members of their support personnel, had tested positive earlier. The BCCI claimed in a statement on Tuesday that the change of venue was prompted by (then) five COVID-19 positive instances among the Delhi Capitals squad.
