New Delhi: A massive explosion at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Sunday killed 18 people and injured six others. The blast took place in the Kattanarpatti area, triggering a major rescue response from emergency teams.
Rescue Operations Underway
The fire and rescue department confirmed the incident and rushed teams to the site soon after the explosion. Authorities are continuing rescue and relief operations while assessing the full extent of the damage.
Local district officials have been instructed to provide immediate assistance to the injured and affected families.
Leaders Express Condolences
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and conveyed condolences to the families of those who died. He also directed senior ministers to reach the accident site and supervise rescue efforts.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed grief over the incident and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the blast.
Safety Concerns Raised Again
The latest accident has once again raised serious concerns over workplace safety standards in firecracker factories, especially in regions known for large-scale fireworks production. Investigations into the cause of the explosion are expected to begin soon.
