New Delhi, Jan 8: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced establishment of 100 new Sainik Schools on Saturday. While chairing a webinar on Sainik Schools, the minister also advised that the Department of Defense and the Sainik School Society develop a system for grading all Sainik Schools based on performance and audit.
This, according to the defence minister, will foster healthy rivalry among the schools while also encouraging them to try new things. He believes that, in addition to the curriculum, children should be taught patriotism and allegiance to the country, as this will help them develop their character and benefit the country.
“The setting up of 100 new Sainik schools will provide an opportunity to girls to join the Armed Forces and contribute to national security,” the minister added.
The government believes in increasing the role of women in the Armed Forces and a series of steps have been taken in that direction, including clearing the way for admission of girls in Sainik Schools and providing Permanent Commission to women officers, an official statement said.
According to the official release, the minister expressed optimism that the decision to open new Sainik schools will encourage females to pursue their ambitions of serving the country.
He explained that because ‘Sainik’ stands for unity, discipline, and devotion, and ‘School’ stands for education, Sainik schools play an important role in preparing children to be capable citizens.
The minister went on to say that the government is focusing on giving great education to the country’s youth since it provides a firm basis for the country’s overall development.
“Quality education is the fourth of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations. There are several other goals under ‘quality education’. It has been our strong political commitment to achieve these goals. Several schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan are being run. Setting up of 100 new Sainik Schools is another important step in that direction,” he said.
