Ranchi, Sept.8: The Jharkhand High Court today asked the State Election Commission to explain the delay in the construction of EVM warehouse and a strong room for election work.
A bench of Justice Rajesh Shanker while hearing a case involving the problems of businessmen due to use of shops at Pandra Agricultural Market for the counting of votes and storage of EVMs directed the State Election Commission and the District Election Office to file a report in the matter fixing the next date of hearing on November 7. The court threatened contempt proceedings in case of delay in construction of the warehouse and strong room.
The advocate appearing on behalf of businessmen, S Ahmed, submitted that the court had earlier given direction for construction of EVM warehouse and strong room.
Ahmed also submitted that Panchayat election took place in April this year but there are still some shops which have not been vacated due to which business work has got badly affected and there is no one on to take care of the problem of the affected businessmen.
