New Delhi: Marking a significant political and financial milestone, Delhi’s BJP government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday presented a ₹1 lakh crore budget for the financial year 2025–26. This is the first BJP budget in the capital in 26 years following the party’s victory over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in last month’s Assembly elections.

The budget, which reflects a 31.5% increase from the previous fiscal, prioritises women’s safety, educational transformation, sanitation upgrades, and startup ecosystem development. In her maiden budget presentation, Gupta introduced multiple flagship schemes and infrastructure projects across sectors.

Key Highlights Of Delhi Budget 2025–26:

• Education:

• ₹100 crore allocated for setting up new CM Shri schools.

• ₹500 crore earmarked for an education hub in Narela.

• ₹7.5 crore allocated to provide free laptops to 1,200 Class 10 students.

• ₹50 crore sanctioned for 175 new computer labs and smart classrooms.

• ₹21 crore allotted for 100 new language labs named after Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, offering courses in French, German, Spanish, English, and more.

• ₹20 crore dedicated to a new scheme titled New Era of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Vision, aimed at cultivating business skills among students.

• Women’s Welfare & Safety:

• ₹5,100 crore earmarked for providing ₹2,500 per month to eligible women.

• 50,000 CCTV cameras to be installed across Delhi for enhanced women’s security.

• Introduction of smart travel cards for women to replace pink tickets, aimed at curbing corruption in free bus ride schemes.

• Health & Sanitation:

• ₹2,144 crore allocated for the PM Jan Arogya Yojana.

• ₹9,000 crore allotted for improvements in water supply and sanitation.

• ₹500 crore set aside for cleaning the Yamuna through decentralised STPs.

• ₹500 crore for repair and upgradation of sewage treatment plants (STPs) and ₹250 crore for replacing outdated sewer lines.

• Other Key Announcements:

• ₹10 crore allocated for a survey to relocate Tihar Jail to the city’s outskirts.

• Expansion of startup support centres across the capital.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasised that the budget reflects a “visionary roadmap” for Delhi’s future. “We are committed to empowering women, transforming education, and building an inclusive and clean capital city,” she said during the Assembly session.
