New Delhi: Virtual proceedings at the Delhi High Court were disrupted on Wednesday after pornographic content and disturbing audio were repeatedly played during hearings of several benches, including that of the Chief Justice. The incident prompted immediate administrative and police action.
Court Platform Shut Down Twice
Due to the disruption, the High Court administration had to suspend the virtual hearing platform twice. At one stage, a message also appeared on screen claiming that the system had been hacked.
Police Complaint Filed
The Delhi High Court administration lodged a formal complaint with the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police. Authorities have begun an investigation into the source of the disruption.
Chief Justice Orders Action
Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya said directions were issued to Registrar General Arun Bharadwaj to take steps to stop circulation of the clips, including the objectionable content. He noted that recording court proceedings is prohibited under existing rules.
Sanctity of Institution Raised in Court
Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma raised the matter during the post-lunch session, stating the incident affected the dignity, sanctity and integrity of the institution. He urged immediate takedown of the content and prevention of further dissemination.
Rules Against Recording Reiterated
The court emphasized that virtual hearings cannot be recorded or shared without permission, and any such circulation would violate court rules and applicable legal provisions.
