New Delhi, May 30: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday denied a bail request made by Manish Sisodia, former deputy chief minister and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in connection with the excise policy case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The high court rejected the plea, noting that Manish Sisodia cannot be allowed bail because the accusations against him are “very serious in nature” and that the excise policy was developed “in conspiracy for undue advantage.”

According to the court, “a person in a high position” is the subject of severe allegations of misconduct, and it is possible that witnesses could be influenced in the case.

“The allegations against Manish Sisodia are very serious. His behaviour is not right in this case. He can influence witnesses. He had been the deputy chief minister and held 18 portfolios. Bail can’t be granted to him,” the court observed.

Manish Sisodia is being held in judicial custody at the Tihar jail.

Earlier, the CBI chargesheet in the Delhi liquor policy case named the former deputy chief minister as an accused. According to the central agency’s additional chargesheet, Manish Sisodia had admitted to burning two cell phones, which was “another incriminating circumstance” against the AAP leader.
