New Delhi: Delhi Police have uncovered a gang involved in creating fake IDs and documents for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, arresting 11 individuals on Tuesday. Among those arrested, five are Bangladeshi nationals, while six are local residents.
The gang reportedly assisted Bangladeshi infiltrators in settling in Delhi by forging documents like voter ID cards and Aadhaar cards. This development comes as part of an operation launched by Delhi Police on December 11 to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators. The operation includes house-to-house verification, document checks, and questioning. Both local police and the Foreigners Cell have been deployed for this targeted campaign.
Fake Documents Recovered
DCP South Delhi, Ankit Chauhan, revealed that the police seized fake Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and passports from the suspects. Among those arrested is a woman who obtained a voter ID using a fake Aadhaar card. One of the suspects, Rajat Mishra, operated a website to facilitate this illegal activity.
In a related case, four suspects from Bangladesh were arrested for their involvement in a murder case. These individuals were reportedly residing in Delhi using forged documents. The gang used forest routes and express trains for illegal entry into Indian territories.
Action Under LG’s Directive
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, had instructed the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner on December 10 to identify and take strict action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. This led to a two-month targeted campaign against such infiltrators.
Political Reactions
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari commented on the arrests, stating, “A case of sedition should be filed against these infiltrators. Their actions deprive our citizens of their rights.” Tiwari further alleged connections between the gang and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of indirectly supporting illegal infiltrators through his recent appeals to the Election Commission.
