New Delhi: Bomb threats sent to three schools in Delhi were found to have originated from the students themselves, according to the Delhi Police. Investigations revealed that the emails were part of a ploy by students to postpone their exams as they were unprepared.

Revealing the Culprits

•Two Siblings: Bomb threat emails to a school were traced to two siblings who admitted during counselling that they wanted to delay their exams.

•Rohini and Paschim Vihar Schools: In two other schools, students from the same institutions sent threatening emails for similar reasons.

•Counselling and Release: All students involved were counselled, and their parents were issued strict warnings.

Details of Threats

•Emails included bomb detonation threats and ransom demands, disrupting school operations.

•On Tuesday, schools received threats demanding $100,000 with claims that bombs would explode within 72 hours.

•Earlier in December, schools such as DPS RK Puram were among those targeted, with threats escalating to mentions of “bomb vests.”

Rising Incidents of Threats

Since May, over 50 bomb threat emails have been sent to schools, hospitals, airports, and airline companies in Delhi, raising concerns over public safety and misuse of such tactics.

Police Action

Delhi Police’s special cell traced the students through their email activity. While no legal charges were pressed due to their age, the police emphasized counselling and monitoring their actions to prevent recurrence.

Impact on Schools and Safety Measures

The ongoing threats have disrupted academic schedules and caused panic among students, parents, and faculty. Authorities are working on enhancing cyber monitoring and emergency protocols to address such incidents effectively.
