New Delhi: In preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Delhi Traffic Police has announced significant road closures and diversions for today, as a full dress rehearsal takes place. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly, as key routes across the city will be inaccessible from 4 AM to 11 AM.
The advisory outlines the closure of several important roads, with only vehicles bearing specific labels permitted to use these routes. The Delhi Police urges the public to remain patient, adhere to traffic rules, and follow instructions from traffic personnel stationed at various intersections.
Road Closures:
The following roads will be closed for the dress rehearsal:
- Netaji Subhash Marg (Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail)
- Lothian Road (GPO to Chatta Rail)
- SP Mukherjee Marg (HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk)
- Chandni Chowk Road (Fountain Chowk to Red Fort)
- Nishad Raj Marg (Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg)
- Esplanade Road and its Link Road (to Netaji Subhash Marg)
- Ring Road (Rajghat to ISBT)
- Outer Ring Road (ISBT to IP flyover via Salimgarh bypass)
Additionally, the Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge will be closed to traffic during the rehearsal period.
Routes to Avoid:
Vehicles without parking labels should avoid the following routes:
- C-Hexagon India Gate
- Copernicus Marg
- Mandi House
- Sikandra Road
- Tilak Marg
- Mathura Road
- BSZ Marg
- JL Nehru Marg
- Ring Road (between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate)
- Outer Ring Road (via Salimgarh bypass)
Bus Diversions:
All local city buses, including DTC, will be diverted away from Ring Road between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and NH-24 from 12 AM midnight until 11 AM. Specific alternative routes have been provided for buses coming from various locations, including Ghaziabad, Dhaulakuan, and Faridabad.
Buses that typically terminate at Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Main Railway Station will either be curtailed or redirected as per the advisory.
Normal bus services are expected to resume after 11 AM.
