Deoghar, Dec.9: The Deoghar municipal corporation (DMC) has started sterilizing street dogs and administering anti-rabies injections to them today. A competent team of employees has been recruited to catch the street dogs.
Under the programme, a dog catcher team roamed the municipal corporation’s various wards, capturing stray dogs and bitches and transporting them to the corporation’s Animal Shelter and Swan Clinic. The dogs are sterilized and vaccinated before being released three days later at the same location where they were caught.
The squad, while catching the dogs, was spotted with a van particularly equipped to transport the dogs. Shailendra Lal, the CEO of DMC, confirmed the drive. He admitted that local social workers had been raising such a need for a long time, but that a professional team was still needed. The DMC has now made its decision and started this drive.
The target of sterilization and vaccination has been set, with the goal of controlling the population of stray dogs and eradicating rabies in the corporation. This step by DMC has been taken after Ranchi Municipal Corporation started a similar operation.
On the other hand, Pankaj Pandit, the president of the Baidyanath Dham Chamber of Commerce, has taken a different stance over this drive. Although he praised DMC’s efforts, he stated that the drive was half-completed because it did not include the bull revered as Nandi baba. A PIL has already been filed in court by the BaidyaNath Dham Chamber of Commerce on this matter.
