New Delhi, Dec 8: A depression in the Bay of Bengal intensified into the cyclonic storm ‘Mandous’, which had been brewing in the region for the past few days. According to the India Meteorological Department, the cyclonic storm that is hovering over the southwest Bay of Bengal has been moving almost west-northwestward at a speed of 8 kmph for the last three hours.
It is very likely to move west-northwestward between Puducherry and Sriharikota on December 9 at a maximum sustained wind speed of nearly 85 kmph, crossing north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and neighbouring southern states of Andhra Pradesh.

IMD reports that a Deep Depression over the Southwest and adjacent Southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a Cyclonic Storm called ‘Mandous,’ which is pronounced ‘Man-Dous’ (Cyclone Alert for the beaches of north Tamilnadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh).
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were stationed in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Myladuthurai, and Chennai in the Tamil Nadu state. The NDRF has three teams on the ground in Karaikal and Puducherry. Additionally operating are two control rooms and health centres.
