Ranchi: Jharkhand’s Director General of Police (DGP) Ajay Kumar Singh convened a virtual meeting with police officials from Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh on Friday to discuss vital election security measures. The agenda focused on intelligence sharing, coordinated operations against extremist groups, and preventive measures for illegal activities to ensure a secure election period.
Strengthening Intelligence Sharing and Security Protocols
DGP Singh underscored the need for timely intelligence exchanges to combat left-wing extremism and mitigate election-related disturbances. Officials discussed strategies to prevent smuggling of illicit goods, arms, and cash, particularly in high-risk border areas, to maintain peace during the electoral process.
Joint Operations and Cross-Border Surveillance
DGP Singh recommended joint search and security operations in identified zones. Priority areas include Budha Paharalong the Chhattisgarh border, a known insurgent hotspot, and the Saranda Forest near Odisha. Surveillance will be increased, with coordinated efforts to disrupt any extremist activities and safeguard these sensitive areas.
Preventive Actions Against Illegal Weapons, Explosives, and Cash Flow
Inspector General (Operations) AV Homkar urged district-level SPs to strengthen local intelligence networks, seize illegal cash, arms, and narcotics, and enhance inter-state cooperation. Efforts will focus on preventing the circulation of counterfeit currency and the transportation of weapons and explosives, which pose risks to the electoral process.
Increased Vigilance for Secure Elections
The states agreed on enhanced vigilance in border regions with regular coordination meetings to track security progress. DGP Singh emphasized the need for a unified approach to deter criminal activity and ensure a secure and fair election.
