Dhanbad, Feb 9: A team of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested the district food safety officer Abhishek Anand and retired staff from his office while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a trader for the renewal of his license today.
The ACB deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Nitin Khandelwal told media persons that district SFO Abhishek Anand had demanded Rs 80,000 from Rupesh Gupta, a resident of Gomoh, for giving renewal of Food Safety Standard of India (FSSI) license to his Gupta Food Production shop.
A team of the ACB today arrested Abhishek Anand and a broker Rampati Tiwary.
“The ACB acted on the complaint lodged by Rupesh Gupta. First, we confirmed the allegation of Gupta and then acted for his arrest. A team was formed to arrest him red-handed. As Gupta handed over Rs 20,000, a first instalment of Rs 80,000 to Rampati Tiwari in ACB office near Dhanbad SDM chamber, ACB team nabbed them on spot,” said DSP Nitin Khandelwal.
After arresting the district food safety officer, the ACB team reached Housing Colony based on his house and began a search operation.
“We would produce them in court and send them to jail after completion of the search operation in-house,” said DSP Khandelwal.
Rampati Tiwari retired from the food safety office five months ago but he had been active in the office.
