Dhanbad July 10: A class Xth girl student of  Dhanbad St. Xavier School Tetulmari hanged herself with a ceiling fan in her house under the Tetulmari police station area, around 25 km away from here, today in the morning.

Family members of the girl alleged that she committed suicide after being slapped by a teacher during prayer in the school. They said that she had gone to school in the morning at 7.30 am and came back home soon after being slapped by a teacher for wearing a ‘bindi’ on her forehead. She returned upset and committed suicide in her room at around 11 am.

The girl, Usha Kumari (17), has also left a suicide note in the name of the police in the room in which she has allegedly held the teacher of the school responsible for the incident.

The family members have demanded action against the school teacher.

The officer in charge of Tetulmari police station, Ashish Yadav, said that the body has been sent for post-mortem at the medical college hospital Dhanbad. An investigation is being done. Action would be taken on the basis of the complaint, he added.

Principal of the school RK Singh told media persons that he had no information about the incident. The girl had arrived at school in the morning and her mother took her away. “He does not know as to why she took such a drastic step. The school runs on established guidelines,” he added.

The house of the girl is near the Tetulmari police station.

The family members said during prayer in the school, the accused female teacher questioned the girl about coming to school with ‘bindi’ on her forehead. The girl reportedly did not reply in a proper manner. Irate by her reply, the teacher slapped her, they alleged.
