Dhanbad, Sept 14: The district administration has directed the labour department for conducting an inspection in ‘dhabas’ (eateries) on either side of the 72 km long inter-state National Highway-2 in search for child labour.
While holding a meeting of the Childline advisory board of District Child Protection Committee (DCPC) on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh sought a report from the labour department over the action taken in the last three years against violators of the child labour Act in the district.
Child labourers in large numbers are allegedly said to be working in hundreds of Dhabas and hotels based on either side of the 72 km long NH-2 that falls in the Dhanbad district.
“There is a possibility of child labour in Dhabas, hotels based at national highway, garages, restaurants in urban and rural areas,” the DC said and directed the labour department to conduct a special inspection and rescue them immediately.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed concern when he was informed that there is Girls Home but no Boys Home in the district for keeping juveniles after rescuing them from hotels, dhabas as child labour.
Singh directed the construction of Boys Home and preparing the legal framework for Place of Justice to keep juvenile criminals.
At the meeting, District Child Protection Officer Sadhna Singh said that there are eight institutions registered under Juvenile Justice Act in the district where children are being kept through the Child Welfare Committee.
The representative of Railway Childline ( Manthon) run on platform no. 1 at Dhanbad railway station, demanded room for operating it smoothly.
