Dhanbad, Dec 28: The first multi-purpose sports park, spread in 12-acres of land and constructed in the heart of coal city at Golf ground, is all decked up for its inauguration as well as entry for the public.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren will inaugurate the park tomorrow through online mode. District administration officials claimed that it is the first multi- purpose sports park in North Chotanagpur  division where complete fun facilities for kids are available besides gym, jogging track and space for other sports events.

A Malaysian synthetic rubber track has been laid in the park for jogging. Skating zone, open gym, yoga platform, meditation platform, green lawn, children play zone, children park facilities are also available to cater requirements of all age groups.

“After inauguration, a basketball and tennis court along with a football ground would be  set up in the park in the second phase. Budget of Rs 9.45 crores has already been allocated for them,” said a senior official, requesting anonymity as he was not officially entitled to talk to the media before inauguration.

Interestingly, the multi-purpose park has evoked mixed response from coal city denizens. Some people said that Dhanbad needed this kind of unique park for catering requirements of the public where they would get all the facilities of sports activities as well as an amusement park for kids, under one roof.

However, some people  said that the Golf ground was the only open place in the city where people used to breathe in the open but the municipal corporation took away the facility. “We breathed free of cost in the open ground but now would have to pay for it,” said Ramesh  Pathak, a resident of Hirapur.
