Dhanbad, Nov 8: The Sindri unit of Hindustan Urvarak Rasayan Limited (HURL), which is the ambitious project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi began its commercial production of urea.

The first commercial production of the plant was dispatched for Babadham (Deoghar). Senior vice-president of HURL Dipen Roy who inaugurated the commercial production flagged off the truck for Babadham on Monday evening.

The official said the Sindri plant will produce 3850 tonnes of urea and 2250 metric ton of ammonia per day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of  HURL Sindri (Jharkhand), Barauni (Bihar) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), a project of over Rs 18,000 crores simultaneously on May 25, 2018, at Dhanbad.

Since Fertilizer Corporation India (FCI) Sindri shut down in December 2002 during Atal Bihari Bajpayee-led central government, Prime Minister Modi had made the HURL Sindri unit his ambitious project to compensate for the loss of 2002.

Gorakhpur and Barauni units of HURL have already started commercial production. As per the plan, the Sindri unit had to start production on December 31, 2020, but due to the Corona lockdown, the production got delayed.

The planning manager of the Sindri unit of HURL Akhilesh Tiwary told media persons that the plant would begin production in full swing (as per capacity) at the end of this month. The plant has a target of producing 11.75 lakh metric tons annually
