Dhanbad Judge murder: Both convicts get additional three years jail in auto theft case

Dhanbad, April 25: Rahul Verma and Lakhan Verma, who had been convicted of killing Dhanbad additional sessions judge Uttam Anand, and are facing life imprisonment, were today awarded three years additional jail term in connection with stealing the autorickshaw used in the murder.

The court of CBI Special Judicial Magistrate Abhishek Srivastava today awarded both the accused three years additional jail terms and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each in the auto theft case.

Public Prosecutor Sameer Kumar said that besides it, the court also awarded additional nine months in jail and a fine of Rs 5,000 on both for causing the disappearance of evidence.

Dhanbad Additional Session judge  Uttam Anand had been knocked down to death by an auto in the early morning ( around 5 am)  of July 28, 2021, while on a morning walk on the side of the main road near Randhir Verma Chowk under Sadar police station. The CCTV footage showed the judge walking on an empty road.

The CCTV footage showed the auto intentionally hit  Uttam Anand from the back who was walking on the side of the road. Both the convicts, Lakhan Verma and Rahul Verma, had stolen the auto from the Digwadih area of the district on the night of July 27 and knocked him down the next morning.

The police recovered the auto from the Giridih district the same day.

On August 6, 2022, the Special Judge of CBI Rajnikant Pathak held both  Rahul and Lakhan guilty and sentenced life imprisonment for killing the judge.

The case of auto theft was pending and today the court of CBI Special Chief Judicial Magistrate Abhishek Srivastava sentenced both three years jail term and a fine of Rs 5000 each.
