Dhanbad police arrest owner of News11 Bharat Arup Chatterjee

Ranchi, June 17: The Dhanbad police has arrested Arup Chatterjee, owner of News11 India. As per sources, Chatterjee was arrested late Saturday night from his flat on Kanke Road.

According to the police, Arup Chatterjee has been arrested in a case of extortion. Notably, a businessman from Dhanbad lodged an FIR against him alleging extortion of money.

The court had later issued an arrest warrant against Chatterjee. However, where the police took him after arrest, whether he was kept here in Ranchi or was taken to Dhanbad is yet to be ascertained.

As per information, the Dhanbad police reached Ranchi late night. After the warrant was issued, Dhanbad SSP Sanjeev Kumar had formed a team under the leadership of DSP Amar Kumar Pandey.
The police team reached Chatterjee’s apartment in Chandni Chowk late at night on Saturday.

The Dhanbad police team with the help of Gonda police station raided the apartment and then arrested Chatterjee.
According to the information, on June 27, a case was registered against Arup Chatterjee at Govindpur police station in Dhanbad. While registering the case, the complainant had alleged that Arup Chatterjee had demanded Rs 11 lakh by blackmailing him through his reporter. Even after taking money, false news had been published and more money was demanded. The complainant also claimed that he was further threatened of actions ifmoney was not paid.
