Dhanbad, Oct 31: Thousands of Dhanbad denizens on Monday ran for unity, integrity and security of the country to mark the 147th birth anniversary of iron man Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
The ‘Unity Run’ kicked start from the City Centre of the coal city and ended at Randhir Verma Chowk near Court More.
Officials of the district administration along with people from all walks of life including Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh, Additional Collector Nandkishore Gupta, SDM Prem Kumar Tiwari, District Planning Officer Mahesh Bhagat, civil surgeon Dr Alok Viswakarma, executive magistrate Sushant Mukherjee, Dr Pradeep Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (traffic) Dilip Kumar along with others completed the run.
On the occasion, DC Singh while addressing the participants at Randhir Verma Chowk said, “The district administration organises ‘Run for Unity’ on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel every year to commemorate unity, integrity and security of the country.
“His contribution in making the country independent and his integrity is unprecedented. He was born in the family of a common farmer but he made even the British bow to his abilities. Sardar Patel led to 562 princely estates joining the country without fighting war during partition,” said DC Sandip Singh.
Earlier the DC and other dignitaries paid tributes to Sardar Patel and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who was killed on October 31.
