Dhanbad, May 27: A four-member doctors’ team of Dhanbad sadar hospital performed a rare surgery of Soft Tissue Sarcoma on a 45 years old woman patient Nilmuni Devi.

This is the first time such type of operation was performed at the sadar hospital that is reeling under acute shortage of doctors and trained nursing staff. A district administration official said that such of an operation in Dhanbad was only done at the Hospital of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMCH).

The doctors team of the Sadar hospital comprising Dr Sanjiv Golash, Dr Mukesh Prasad, Dr Rohit Gautam and Dr Anand Kumar ( Anesthesia) took around one hour in successful operation of the woman. Since she was suffering from blood deficiency, the doctors said three bottles of blood were administered to her before operation.

“ The condition of the patient is stable after operation.   At present we have diagnosed it as Soft Tissue Sarcoma.  But it would be confirmed only the after pathology report arrived. The operated part of soft tissue sarcoma has been sent to the Path Lab. Only after getting the lab report we can say what was it,” said Dr Sanjiv, the deputy superintendent of the Sadar hospital.
Congratulating the doctors’ team over successful operation, Dhanbad civil surgeon Dr Alok Vishwakarma said that such type of successful operation would increase confidence of people in the Sadar hospital services. We can do more rare operations if resources are provided,” he said.
The patient, a resident of Bartand area of the district, was suffering from Soft Tissue Sarcoma in her left leg.  Six months ago, she had got operation in a private hospital of coal city. But rather than getting the relief, her soft sarcoma tissue became swollen and growing more day by day.

She finally reached  sadar hospital for check up. The team of doctors under deputy superintendent Dr Sanjiv examined her and decided to conduct operation under available resources in hospital.

The  patient  Nilmuni Devi said that the operation has not only given relief from pain but also save thousands of  rupees which she had  to spend  in private hospital  in first operation.
