Dhanbad, Feb 22: An outsourcing staff of State Bank of India named Uttapal Chatterji (46) committed suicide in the Chirkunda branch of the organization, around 40 km away from the district headquarter on Tuesday afternoon.
Police officials said that at around noon, the guard of the bank found Uttapal Chatterji hanging with the fan in the record room of the bank.
After getting information, the SBI Branch Manager Rajiv Ranjan immediately informed Chirkunda police station. Police took him to the nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Chirkunda police station officer-in-charge Jitendra Kumar said that the body has been sent to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad for post-mortem.
Branch manager Rajiv Ranjan said that Uttpal Chatterji had come today in the morning like any other day and began working in the record room. He had no dispute with any employee of the branch and looked normal when he arrived.
“He had a bad habit of drinking alcohol but he used to complete the work timely,” Rajiv said.
Sujata Chatterji, the wife of Uttpal Chatterji, also reached the SBI branch after getting information and ruled out any family tension which could have led to his suicide.
The deceased was a resident of Babu Dangal area of Chirkunda police station and has left his wife, two daughters Riya and Ritu, and an ailing mother behind.
