Dhanbad, Aug 1: A delegation of All India Fertilizer Corporation of India VSS Employees Association (AIFCIVSSEA) has sent a memorandum to the President of India Droupdi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for continuing railway concession to senior citizens.
AIFCIVSSEA in its memorandum has said that during the Corona pandemic, the railway for the time being had announced a temporary suspension of concession to senior citizens. But on July 22, the Railway Board withdrew the facility permanently which is a direct jolt to senior citizens of the country.
Sewa Singh, the president of AIFCIVSSEA giving this information today said that a delegation has been sent to Delhi under social activist of coal belt Anil Pandey to submit the memorandum directly to the office of the President and PMO.
“We have urged the President and Prime Minister to restore the status of the facility of railway concession to the senior citizens (men and women) as it was being provided before Corona pandemic, keeping the plight of aged persons in mind,” said Sewa Singh.
The AIFCIVSSEA president pointed out that before the Corona, women above 58 years and men above 60 years were given 50% and 40% concession respectively in railway journeys. But now, the Railway Board has withdrawn the facility.
Over 500 senior citizens (retired employees of Fertilizer Corporation of India) have signed the memorandum. Earlier, senior citizens observed a one-day dharna against the decision of the railway in Sindri on Sunday.
