Dhanbad, Sept 19: Two students were killed on the spot while two others including the driver were seriously injured in an SUV-truck head-on collision on National Highway-2 near Banka Pool under Topchanchi police station, around 45 km away from Dhanbad district headquarters on Sunday night.
The police officer said the deceased were identified as Sunil Mahto and Anshu Raj. Sawan Kumar and Chhotu Kumar (SUV’s driver) were critically injured. The police admitted them to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad.
Topchachi police station officer-in-charge Jayaram Prasad said that the incident occurred around 10 pm.
A Scorpio loaded with four youths was coming from Topchanchi’s side to Rajganj on the wrong side of the lane of the highway while the truck was going towards Topchanchi from Rajganj. Both the vehicles collided head-on.
All SUV riders were residents of Bhuli township of Dhanbad. Anshu Raj and Sunil Kumar were preparing for competitive examinations.
The eyewitnesses said the Scorpio was coming from the wrong side of the road. After the collision, the truck dragged the SUV around 30 metres. The truck’s driver fled after the incident.
On getting the information, the Topchachi police station officer reached the spot and brought out the injured stranded in the car.
