Dhanbad, Sept 9: Two youths identified as Ganesh Das (20) and Rajiv Das (22) drowned in Barakar river in course of bathing near Chirkunda bridge under the Chirkunda police station, around 40 km from here on Saturday morning.
A Chirkunda police official said that the incident occurred around 7 .30 am today. Both the youths of Daspara area had gone to bath in the river. They slipped in deep of the river. Nearby people raised alarm and jumped into to rescue them.
People after hard struggle fished out bodies of Ganesh Das but Rajiv Das could not be found. The Chirkunda police were informed for divers to rescue Rajiv Das. But when after several hours the police did not reach the spot, an irate mob blocked the Chirkunda Bridge on GT Road, which connects Jharkhand – Bengal, by setting tyres on fire.
However, the mob withdrew the blockade of bridge after five hours when the police reached the spot and assured them to deploy divers for the search of Rajiv Das in the river.
