Daltonganj, Aug 18: A dozen disabled persons today put the civil and the police administrations on a live wire at Block A of the Collectorate where the office of Palamu DC is situated.

They squatted at the main gate throwing security personnel tizzy. They said they had a charter of 11 demands.

Their prime demand was to scrap the advertisement for their residential school which has been wound up following complaints of varied nature ranging from mismanagement to the exploitation of the girl inmates.

The disabled demanded the restoration of the management of the now closed and advertised residential school in their own hands.

Disabled squatting down at the main entrance of the Collectorate

Here the district administration refers to a government order which asks for NGO to run it which fulfils the criteria for the management.

The incident was a serious security lapse at the Collectorate. The squatting of the disabled right at the main entrance was unprecedented. No security guard could get any whiff of such squatting which was prolonged for more than 2 hours.

The security reached there but was in a dilemma how to act as any physical action would have been seen as an anti-disabled action. So, the police also acted with restraint.

No police officer was ready to even shout at them to keep calm as then these disabled would have painted action against them as a violation of their human rights.

The squatting was going on till the time of reporting. District Social Welfare Officer Sandhya Rani and SDO Sadar Rajesh Kumar Sah were seen trying to pacify the disabled but in vain.
