Dr Archana death case: OPD at MGM Hospital Jamshedpur, other heal centres shut as part of statewide protest

Jamshedpur, April 2: The Outpatients Department (OPD) at MGM Hospital, Sadar Hospital and several other private heal hubs remained shut as doctors failed to turn up demanding justice for Dr Archana Sharma, an alumnus of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) who committed suicide on March 29 in Rajasthan.

A murder case was lodged against her after the death of a patient admitted for delivery under her care. Abatement to suicide is alleged in the case.

The state chapter of the Indian Medical Association ( IMA ) and Jharkhand Health Services Association ( JHSA) had called for a 12- hour OPD strike from 7 am to 7 pm.

Both the outfits had appealed to doctors to abstain from work at, clinics, hospitals and nursing homes in protest against Dr Archana’s death.

Superintendent of MGM Hospital Dr Arun Kumar said keeping in view the OPD strike they have increased the number of doctors in the emergency to cater to the patients.

Notably, the OPD of MGM Hospital witnesses a daily footfall of over 500 patients whole around 300 patients turn up at the OPD of the Sadar Hospital in Khasmahal.

Patients suffered as doctors boycotted the OPDs in various private hospitals and nursing homes in protest.
