Jamshedpur, April 6: The driver of a tanker was electrocuted to death and its cleaner injured as the heavy vehicle came in contact with an overhead high-tension line in Adityapur industrial area on Thursday.
The incident has taken place near an industrial unit, M/s Ranbir Polymer at the industrial area phase – I under RIT thana area in Adityapur. As the tanker was passing through a road in front of the Ranbir Polymer company, the vehicle came in contact with the overhead high-tension line, causing electricity to run through it.
Sensing it to be a situation of electrocution, the cleaner managed to jump out of the vehicle, but the driver could not.
Some people who were around soon understood it to be a case of electrocution and informed the fire brigade. Within 20 minutes, a fire tender arrived at the scene and rescued the driver from the vehicle. The victim was immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.
In the meantime, a team of Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) officials reached the spot for inspection.
A senior JBVNL official said the height of the high-tension line that passes through the area was alright, but the mishap took place as there was some additional fittings in the tanker that caused the vehicle to come in contact with the overhead high-tension line.
The police have seized the body for postmortem though the victim’s identity is yet to be established.
