Dumka, April 7: Amidst many hues and cries being made by the BJP against the Hemant Soren government over illegal mining taking place elsewhere in the state, a social media footage of senior party leaders of the district joining a religious event organised by a so-called mining and liquor mafia, has widely established them to have been complicit in the contraband activities.
However, murmuring has started brewing within the district BJP as the video footage of the former district president of the party Niwas Mandal and party candidate from Jama for subsequent terms, Suresh Murmu having accompanied one Amar Mandal during a religious event went viral on social media for the last couple of days.
Amar, who is an accused of a liquor trafficking case lodged by the excise department a few months back and has currently bailed out is equally infamous for his alleged indulgence in the illegal mining and transportation of coal, stones and sand from the district for quite a long period.
Although Amar has not officially affiliated himself with any political party, sources close to him said that he enjoys proximity with both the ruling and opposition party leaders in terms of obliging them monetarily through his ill-gotten money from the contraband businesses.
It is due to his proximity with the politicians that Amar throughout remained unhurt from any legal recourse for the last several years of his venture into illegal mining and transportation until may last when his name figured for the first time in illegal liquor trafficking.
Excise department sleuths had recovered a country made foreign liquor (CMFL) worth Rs one crore from a warehouse owned by him in his native village Jarpura under Jama police station of the district, when the consignment was about to be transported to the neighbouring Bihar, otherwise a dry state.
It was apparently owing to his being a ‘high profile’ accused that the excise department sleuths did not only let him go instead of arresting him but he later managed to procure anticipatory bail.
As of now when BJP leaders have been spotted participating in a religious event organised by Amar Mandal points have started being raised from within the party.
“It is now evident that why the local BJP leaders have turned to be the mute spectators of the rampant mining of coal and other minor minerals in the district” pointed out a senior party functionary preferring anonymity.
