Dumka, Nov.19: A Muslim woman was divorced by her husband after he pronounced triple Talaq to her for delivering three girl children and not paying Rs 1.5 lakh dowry.

The victim woman, Haseena Bibi belonging to Shivtalla village under Shikaripara police station of the district, has lodged an FIR against her husband Salim Ansari alleging that she was being tortured by him for the last few years on the pretext of giving birth to three daughters.

The complainant has also alleged that her parents were demanded Rs 1.5 lakh as dowry by the husband and that failing to pay the amount often infuriated him to the extent of resorting to torture her.

“The FIR against Salim Ansari of Shivtalla village has been lodged on Thursday under the triple Talaq law and dowry act on the basis of the written complaint lodged by his wife Haseena Bibi,” the officer-in-charge of the Shikaripara police station Sushil Kumar said adding that the accused husband was on the run to escape arrest.

The OC further said that the matter was earlier brought before the village Panchayat but the accused denied to accept his wife by levelling charges of having an illicit relationship with someone else of the village which prompted him to pronounce instant divorce by uttering Talaq three times, the practice been already banned following the enactment of triple Talaq law.

“The investigation in connection with the charges levelled by the complainant has been on and attempts are being made to arrest the accused husband,” the OC said.
