Ranchi, Jan 19: East Singhbhum has topped the table of Covid fatalities in the state. 37 deaths were reported from the district which is more than 50% of total death cases in the state between 30 December 2021 to 18 January 2022.
According to the state health department, 3 new death cases were reported here on Tuesday, taking the total death toll to 1,085 in the district since the outbreak of the pandemic.
According to the district’s civil surgeon Dr AK Lal, 90% of the death cases were reported among the elderly people within 65 years above age group who were co-morbid and suffering from other disorders including covid infection.
“The reason behind the maximum death reported from the district is that we have a maximum number of covid testing, which has brought a greater number of co-morbid cases under the purview of the district administration which was suffering from covid infection too. The death happened due to other chronic ailments such as heart or kidney failure which also had a covid infection,” Lal said.
“The district will be the first to achieve 100% vaccination in the state which will most probably be achieved within a week. There are few people in the rural areas who are reluctant to take the vaccine for which we have mobilised the local officials of the particular areas to motivate the people through ‘nukkad-natak’ to achieve the 100% vaccination and a strong stance to defeat the corona infection,” Lal added.
As of January 16, East Singhbhum has administered the maximum number of vaccine doses among the 24 districts of the state. Out of the eligible 16,77,341 population of the state, 15,80,786 have been administered with the first dose which is 94% of the total beneficiaries eligible for the jab. In terms of the second dose, the district has achieved 70% of the target by giving 11,74,374 second doses to the eligible beneficiaries.
