New Delhi, Oct.9: India and China will hold another round of high-level military discussions on Sunday, with the goal of moving the disengagement process further in the remaining contention points in eastern Ladakh, according to official sources.

The talks will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Moldo border post on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, according to reports.

In addition to pressing for resolution of difficulties in Depsang Bulge and Demchok, the Indian side is expected to seek disengagement as soon as feasible in the remaining friction points.

On July 31, the 12th round of talks took place. The two militaries concluded the disengagement procedure in Gogra a few days after the negotiations, which was viewed as a significant step toward the restoration of peace and tranquilly in the region.

The 13th round of negotiations is taking place against the backdrop of two recent incidents of Chinese forces attempting incursions, one in Uttarakhand’s Barahoti sector and the other in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang sector.

Last week, Indian and Chinese troops engaged in a brief skirmish at Yangtse in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh, which was settled within hours after talks between commanders from both sides, according to persons familiar with the situation on Friday.

Nearly 100 Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers crossed the LAC in the Barahoti area last month. On August 30, the violation occurred, and Chinese troops left the area after only a few hours.

Lt Gen PGK Menon, Commander of the Leh-based 14 Corps, will lead the Indian team to the talks on Sunday.

Following a violent conflict in the Pangong lake areas on May 5, last year, the border standoff between the Indian and Chinese forces erupted, and both sides gradually increased their deployment by bringing in tens of thousands of soldiers as well as heavy weaponry.
