New Delhi, Sept 12: Abhishek Banerjee’s sister-in-law Maneka Gambhir was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday regarding an alleged coal scam. After ‘erroneously’ sending Gambhir a notice for an appearance at 12:30 am on Monday rather than 12:30 pm, the ED issued a new summons to her, according to official sources.
Gambhir arrived at the agency’s office in the CGO complex in Salt Lake City at around 12.40 pm after being told to present before 2 pm.

The ED was earlier left furious when Gambhir came at the agency’s office after midnight despite the notice requesting that she attend at 12.30 am on Monday.
On September 10, Gambhir was refused permission to board an overseas flight, and agency representatives gave her the summons to appear at the ED office on Monday.
In August, the Calcutta High Court ordered the ED to examine Gambhir at its regional office in Kolkata rather than in Delhi and to hold off on using coercion until the next hearing date.
In connection with the purported coal scam case, Gambhir received a summons from the ED asking her to appear before it in Delhi on September 5. She objected to the summons and requested the court to order the agency to let her appear before it in Kolkata, where she claimed to live.
Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, as well as his wife Rujira, had already been questioned by the central agency in relation to the issue.
